Tailoring without rewriting from scratch

One generic CV sent to thirty employers does worse than a tailored one sent to eight, and it takes longer in total. But tailoring does not mean rewriting. Keep a single long master document holding everything you have ever done, and build each application by deleting from it.

For each role, reorder so the most relevant experience sits highest, then edit three or four bullets to use the advertisement's own language wherever it is honestly describing the same thing. Fifteen minutes an application. This is not a trick — a reader who sees their own requirements reflected back reads further, which is the only thing any CV is for.
