Compare against the outcome, not against another course

The right comparison is not 'is this course cheaper than that one'. It is 'what does a graduate of this course, in this country, realistically earn in year one, and how many years of that salary is the total cost?'

A rough rule families find useful: if total cost is more than about two years of realistic starting salary in the field, the case needs to be made carefully rather than assumed.
