Ask better questions

'What will you do with that?' lands as a verdict. Try instead: what does someone in this field do on a normal Tuesday? Who have you spoken to who does it now? What would make you change your mind about it?

These are not softer questions — they are harder ones. But they put you on the same side of the table, examining the plan together instead of examining each other.
