Deferral is often better than withdrawal

If the plan wobbles, withdrawing is not the only option. Most institutions allow a deferral to the next intake, and a deferral usually preserves the deposit where a withdrawal forfeits it. Some also allow the place to be held while an appeal or a funding decision resolves.

Ask specifically: can this be deferred, for how long, does the deposit carry across, and does the fee rate carry across or reset to the new year's rate. That last one catches people.
