Reading the refund policy before you need it

Every legitimate institution publishes a refund policy, and it is usually a table: withdraw before this date and you receive this proportion. The dates matter more than the percentages, because the steps are steep and close together.

Read it at the moment you pay, not at the moment you want the money back. Note the two or three cut-off dates in the same calendar you keep your deadlines in.
