Following up without becoming a nuisance

No reply usually means busy, not uninterested. One follow-up after ten to fourteen days, three lines, forwarding the original — that is normal and often works. A second follow-up is not.

When someone does reply, answer within a day, say what you did with their advice, and close the loop later when something comes of it. That last message costs nothing and is the reason people remember students years afterwards.
