One page, and what earns a line on it

A first-job CV is one page. Not because a rule says so, but because the reader gives it seconds, and a second page dilutes the first rather than adding to it. That means most of what you have done cannot go on it, and choosing what does is the actual work.

A line earns its place if it evidences something the job asked for. School prizes from six years ago do not. A hobby does not, unless it demonstrates something relevant — the reader is not yet interested in you as a person, only in whether you can do the work. Cut the objective statement at the top while you are there: it describes what you want, and the reader is looking for what you offer.
