Retrieval instead of review

Close the notes and write down everything you can recall about the topic. Then open them and mark what you missed. The missing parts, not the recalled parts, are your study list — and you now have one, which rereading never gives you.

Turn your notes into questions rather than summaries as you take them. A page of questions you must answer from memory is a study tool; a page of summarised answers is a comfort object.
