Editing to your own voice

Read the draft aloud. Every sentence you would not say to a teacher, cut or rewrite. Delete the adjectives — 'prestigious', 'esteemed', 'world-class' — they add nothing a reader trusts.

Then check the ratio: how many sentences describe something you actually did, versus something you feel? Under half is a rewrite, not an edit.
