What counts as a piece

A piece is anything real with a visible result: coursework taken past the grade, a small tool you built because something annoyed you, a volunteer project with an actual client, a freelance job however small, a piece of analysis on public data.

What does not count is a certificate of completion. A tutorial you followed shows you can follow a tutorial. Six well-finished pieces beat thirty course badges, and the difference is finishing.
