Capturing structure instead of sentences

What you want on the page is the shape of the argument: the claim, the two or three things supporting it, the exception, the part that contradicts last week. Indentation, arrows and boxes do more work here than full sentences, because structure is what you will need later and prose is what you will skip.

Leave the right-hand third of the page empty as you go. That space is where the second pass lives, and having it already there is most of what makes the second pass actually happen.
