Checking it yourself, and walking away

Every substantive claim can be verified in about twenty minutes. Recognition and registration sit on a public national register. Course content, entry requirements and fees are on the institution's own site. Graduate outcomes are published by the institution or a national body. If a claim cannot be traced to one of those, treat it as marketing.

And you can leave. You owe an adviser nothing for a first meeting, deposits paid to an agent rather than to an institution are a warning in themselves, and no legitimate opportunity in education evaporates because you took a week. Saying "we are going to check a few things and come back to you" is a complete sentence.
