Who pays the person advising you

Most education agents are paid by the institution, not by the family — a commission when a student enrols, often a percentage of first-year tuition. This is normal, legal and disclosed in some markets and not in others. It does not make the advice worthless. It does mean the adviser earns more from some recommendations than from others, and you cannot judge the advice without knowing which.
