Making the last week count

Most people finish an internship with a vague good feeling and nothing to show for it. In the final week, write down what you actually did, with numbers, and check it with your supervisor. That list becomes CV bullets, portfolio pieces and the brief you send a referee two years from now.

Then ask three things while you are still in the building: whether they would act as a reference, whether they would look at your CV honestly, and who else you should be talking to. The last one is the valuable question and almost nobody asks it. Do all three in week eight, not by email in December.
