Perfectionism as avoidance

Endless polishing usually is not high standards. It is the last safe place before the work has to be judged, because an unfinished thing cannot fail. That is why a project can absorb another week of small improvements nobody will ever notice.

The test: would a reader notice this change, and does it affect the thing being assessed? If not, it is avoidance. Handing over work that is good rather than perfect is a real skill, and every hour past the definition of done buys less than the one before it.
