Resits, retakes and capped marks

Failing a module is ordinary and most institutions expect a proportion of it. Usually there is a resit — sitting the assessment again, often in a summer period — and in many systems the resit mark is capped at the bare pass, so you clear the module but the higher mark you might have earned does not count. A retake means taking the module again properly, usually the following year, and usually paying for it.

Which one applies, how many attempts you get, and whether the cap exists are all written down in your institution's regulations. Find that document now, while nothing has gone wrong, because it is far harder to read clearly in the week you actually need it.
