The second attempt

A repeat year is a real option and it is chosen by a great many people. It is also a year of your life, a year of fees, and a year in which the comparison to your former classmates runs constantly. It works well for people whose first attempt was clearly disrupted or clearly under-prepared, and much less well for people who prepared properly and landed where their preparation put them.

The honest question is not whether you could do better. Most people could do somewhat better. It is whether the improvement you can realistically expect crosses the specific closing rank you need, and whether you would rather spend that year on a course you can already enter. Both answers are respectable. Only one of them is usually examined.
