Being wrong well

Parents are sometimes right about this and sometimes badly wrong, and the fields that looked like dead ends a generation ago include several that now pay well. You will not know for years. What you can control is whether the relationship survives the disagreement intact enough that they come to you when something goes wrong.

So make the case once, properly and with evidence. Then say clearly that you have said your piece, you may be wrong, and you are on their side either way. A child who knows they can report a mistake without hearing "I told you so" reports it early, while it is still fixable. That is worth more than winning.
