Be precise instead of catastrophic. Find out how many of your credits transfer, whether there is a mid-year entry, what deposits are non-refundable, and how the fees compare. Write the number down. In many cases a switch inside the same faculty costs one term, not one year.

Then compare it against the honest alternative: the cost of finishing a degree you will not use, which is three more years of fees plus the years afterward spent working back toward the thing you actually wanted.
